What a night for our Gala! With a new venue, Founders One Nine, the 2018 Paper Anvil Awards “Honoring the Master Strategists of Public Relations” was so much fun. A record 148 awards were presented to area professionals and students. Congratulations to all of our chapter award winners and Lukas Partners' president and owner Joan Lukas for receiving the PRSA Nebraska Professional of the Year award.
We are lucky to have such a great team of board members who made the evening a success under the leadership of our Gala/Awards chairs, Laramy Pieper and Kara Kostal.
You can check out all of the award winners on our fresh, sleek, and new PRSA website, spearheaded by Hayley Henricksen and team. Also, don't forget to connect with us on social media with Brittney Ryba and the entire communications team keeping you informed on programs, events and much more.
We are truly off to a great start. The Board is currently in the process of strategic planning and I will be keeping you informed of major initiatives to serve our member needs and advance the profession.
In January our President-Elect, Amanda Lustgraaf wrapped up a survey of members and non-members. Thank you for your participation. We have a committee doing a "deep dive" of the data so that we can analyze what this means to the Nebraska chapter. This information will help us with planning and development of tactics for this year and beyond. We will be providing feedback to you on key themes.
We also are busy working on the next ON Brand conference. Please mark your calendars now for the event, July 18, 2019 at Embassy Suites La Vista.
Thank you to all members of PRSA Nebraska. We appreciate you and all that you do. And, if you are not a member, we would love to talk to you about the many benefits.

Diverse Voices: Profiles in Leadership
Members of UNO's Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter will present to us their entry into the annual Bateman Case Study Competition. This year's challenge revolves around diversity in public relations.
The five members of the UNO PRSSA Bateman Competition team are undergraduate students majoring in Journalism and Media Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and Advertising. The team is sponsored by the School of Communication within the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media.
Tuesday, March 26, Mike Smith and Andrew Norman
From his humble beginnings in Imperial, NE, Mike Smith has since founded two non-profits and influenced hundreds of thousands youth and adults nationwide. Mike lives his life as a "professional teenager" that doubles as a motivational speaker, consultant, and ambassador. He’s been featured by organizations like YPO, Special Olympics, Red Bull, State Farm, TD Ameritrade, and Jostens.
Alongside Smith will be speaker Andrew Norman, co-founder Rabble Mill, a 501c3 nonprofit formed as a merger of The Bay and Hear Nebraska. After years of collaboration between Smith and Norman who founded the two fast-growing organizations, both dedicated to serving underdogs since 2010 (at-risk youth and families for The Bay; working musicians for Hear Nebraska), a merger positioned Rabble Mill to have greater impact on its communities — in Nebraska and around the world — through its program divisions, The Bay, Hear Nebraska and Skate for Change. Additionally, Norman co-authored Smith’s 2017 book, “Legacy vs. Likes.”

UNO’s PRSSA chapter needs your help!
Students have designed a survey to understand how you experience and perceive issues of diversity and inclusion within your workspace or institution. These insights will help guide a community-focused campaign on raising awareness and sparking dialogue within our industry and community on diversity and inclusion.
