PRSA Nebraska 2019 Board of Directors 

The PRSA Nebraska Chapter is seeking dedicated and passionate PR professionals to serve on the 2019 Board of Directors. Board members play an important role in raising the profile of the PR profession in Nebraska while developing management and leadership skills and building friendships.

Board member commitment includes attendance at bi-monthly board meetings (six per year), attendance at chapter events, management of a committee and more. Members are encouraged to self-nominate or nominate another qualified member in good standing.

Roles & Responsibilities 


Chapter Officers:

President
The president shall preside at all meetings of the Chapter and of the board. He/she shall appoint all committees with the approval of the board and shall be an ex-officio member of all committees unless otherwise provided by the board. The president shall perform all other duties incident to the office of president. The president shall immediately succeed to the position of past president upon expiration of the president’s term of office. The president oversees the board nomination and selection process and will serve as Assembly Delegate. May also oversee Membership duties in lieu of a Membership Chair.

President-Elect
The president-elect shall assist the president, perform all duties incident to the office of president-elect and, in the absence or disability of the president, shall exercise the powers and perform the duties of the president. The president-elect shall immediately succeed to the office of president upon expiration of the president’s term of office, and in the event of the death, resignation, removal or incapacity of the president. The president-elect shall serve as president of the foundation and serve on the professional development committee. Spearheads the board nomination and selection process. Serve as Assembly Delegate.

Secretary/Treasurer
The secretary/treasurer shall maintain records of all meetings of the Chapter and of the board. The secretary/treasurer will work closely with the chapter administrator to prepare the Chapter's budget, make regular financial reports to the board, render an annual financial statement and perform all other duties customarily pertaining to the office of the secretary and treasurer. Serve on the professional development committee. Participate in the board nomination and selection process. Serve as alternate Assembly Delegate.

Past President
Provide guidance and leadership to assist the board and serve as historian.

Vice President — Education
Supervise and provide guidance to the following directors: accreditation, ethics, monthly programs/networking and professional development. Oversee strategic planning/budget process and serve on committees for all education initiatives. Serve on the professional development committee.

Vice President — Communications
Supervise and provide guidance to the following directors: social media, communications, website/jobs bank and membership. Oversee strategic planning/budget process and serve on committees for all communications initiatives. Serve on the professional development committee.

Vice President — Outreach
Supervise and provide guidance to the following directors: community service, PRSSA liaison, awards/gala and sponsorships. Oversee strategic planning/budget process and serve on committees for all outreach initiatives. Serve on the professional development committee.

 

Directors-at-large:

EDUCATION

Accreditation Chair
As an accredited member of the Society, provide local leadership related to the national Universal Accreditation examination to obtain Accreditation in Public Relations (APR). Specific activities may include providing information sessions for Chapter members interested in accreditation, development of local preparation sessions, and serving as liaison with the national office. Increase awareness of the value of APR and oversee the accreditation process for Nebraska chapter members.

Ethics Chair
Promote knowledge, understanding and proper usage of the PRSA Code of Ethics through PRSA Nebraska platforms and events. Plan and execute annual PRSA Ethics Month professional development luncheon in September.

Monthly Programs/Networking Co-chairs (2 positions)
Develop monthly programming to provide professional development education and networking opportunities. Work with committee to develop engaging and innovative topics to engage members and incentivize new member participation. Coordinate 2-4 events a year to boost networking opportunities among current and potential members.

Professional Development Chair (2-year commitment)
Lead the planning and execution of PRSA Nebraska’s signature professional development conferences and summits including Media Relations, Professional Development Conference or ON Brand conference). Oversee a committee and board member involvement to develop innovative programming and education to grow participation and elevate the value of PRSA membership. Works in conjunction with the sponsorship chair and board members to develop sponsors for the event.

COMMUNICATIONS

Social Media Chair
Develop and execute PRSA Nebraska's social media strategy and content to promote PRSA membership and events. Establish content guidelines for social media, monitor analytics and identify opportunities to boost engagement.

Communications Chair
Develop a strategy to inform members and potential members of PRSA events and programs. Prepare and distribute email communications, e-newsletters, and news releases regarding Chapter’s events, activities and member accomplishments based on information provided by board members.

Website/Jobs Bank Chair
Oversee ongoing maintenance and upgrades of the PRSA Nebraska chapter website, ensuring content is up-to-date and the site is properly functioning. Oversee posting of content including event information and registration, blog posts, calendars, and more. Monitor analytics to make improvements to the site and to enhance the user experience. Manage the job bank function on the site.

Membership Chair
Act as primary point of contact for members and prospective members. Leads efforts to serve and grow PRSA Nebraska membership with a focus on member services, recruitment and retention. Work closely with communications chairs to develop a communications strategy to promote PRSA membership and events. Lead Diversity & Inclusion initiatives. Maintain a roster of prospective and approved members. This position may also be assumed within the president’s responsibilities

OUTREACH TEAM

Community Service Chair
Oversee the selection process and execution of an annual community service project for a local nonprofit organization. Lead a committee to develop and execute a plan. The scope of service provided is based on the needs of the recipient and may include developing a strategic communications plan, conducting media outreach for a program or event and much more.

PRSSA Liaison Chair
Serve as liaison between the chapter and five collegiate PRSSA chapters (UNL, UNO, Creighton, University of South Dakota and Wayne State). Communicate with advisors to engage students in PRSA Nebraska events, professional development and membership recruitment. Oversee scholarship program and allocate collegiate stipends. Some travel required to visit PRSSA chapters.

Awards/Gala Co-chairs (2 positions)
Co-chairs work closely together and with a committee to plan and execute the Annual Paper Anvil Awards process and the Awards Gala in December. Manage award entry and judging process and coordinate with judging chapter. Planning includes working with a design agency to develop a theme and communications materials. Manage reciprocal judging process in the spring, including recruiting judges from PRSA Nebraska membership.

Sponsorships Chair
Develop and execute a plan to recruit and maintain annual sponsorship support to provide affordable and value-added programs for PRSA members. Serve on the committees of and collaborate with monthly programs, professional development, and gala chairs to establish fundraising goals for in-kind and cash sponsorships. Ensure sponsorship involvement and recognition through all channels.
